About the Camp

camp STRING is an original creation of the Boston String Quartet in a effort to provide string and piano players with an opportunity to work one-on-one with a professional touring/recording ensemble. Through our relationships with artists throughout the Boston area, we are able to expose students to string players who perform various styles of music including jazz, Latin, Klezmer, and others. It is our hope that students attending camp STRING will come away with a newfound passion for chamber music and a broader mind of the musical world outside of it.

Chamber Music

At the heart of camp STRING is an intensive chamber music program. It is our goal to:

Develop student's abilities to communicate musical ideas with other musicians
Instill in students an appreciation of the classical repertoire
Provide them with means of preparing and executing a successful musical performance

Contemporary Styles

To supplement learning, camp STRING provides students with the opportunity to interact with professional string players in a myriad of different musical idioms. Styles to be featured in 2009:

Jazz
Celtic
Old time fiddling
Latin
Arabic
Indian Carnatic
